Hardly a week goes by without another story involving Facebook or one of the other social networking websites. One day we hate them for being a sanctuary for evil predators, and the next day we love them for giving the public a voice and the chance to enhance people’s lives.

This story from the BBC is a classic example. The Daily Mail recently ran an article about the lewd advances made to a Child Protection Officer whilst he surfed Facebook pretending to be a 15 year old girl. Today, it appears that the website involved wasn’t Facebook but another “un-named” soical website.

Worse still, the report was mostly written by a Daily Mail reporter. Fill in the gaps yourself, but make sure you’re reminded of the fact that you can’t always trust the media to be on your side, or even the side of the truth.
